Homosexuality and it's Appearance and Recognition in the World.

When someone mentions the word "Gay" people automatically turn to homosexuality and partners of the same sex, but did it always mean this? In the past, if someone said a person was gay it actually meant that he or she was simply happy. Usually upon hearing the term gay and homosexuality we think of recent events and our generation but in reality same sex relationships have been going for years. This is something your history book doesn't tell you!

Same sex relationships among the Ancient Greeks and Romans have been hidden and put under the rug. Not many cultures rejected the idea of male love instincts. They would integrate it and accept it dearly and only a few cultures denied the idea. Eventually through time more countries started creating records of these "male bondings" and it became a normal but still controversial topic.

In 1971, the GLAA or The Gay and Lesbian Activist Alliance was founded. It is the oldest continuously active gay organization in the United States. The alliance dedicated themselves to secure the rights and privileges of the gay community through peaceful involvement in the political world. Throughout the years of 1971 and 2010 the GLAA have accomplished and struggled for the acceptance of the LGBT community. Associations like these fuel their audience to come out and express themselves and win their rights. According to studies made in 2005-2006 about 8.8 million gay, lesbian and bisexual persons in the United States. Also statistics say that 1 out of 20 people could be or are LGB.

Homosexuals are slowly growing into society and with growing activists it will be no surprise if more than half of the world comes out as LGBT. Acceptance is getting stronger but so is oppression and it is in our hands to fully accept the fact that these people just want to be treated equally no matter what. The group in general is getting stronger and will keep increasing throughout the years that come.
