Top 10 Proposals!

1. Elderly Rights Proposal by Karlitza Lebron The elderly deserve the same rights as anyone else. They are older and thus should be more respected in society. I strongly believe for the respect of the elderly because i've seen the mistreatment of them personally and before hand. Even if they don't have much to offer, they are stil living beings.

2. Disability Rights Proposal by Nestor Flores As mentioned before, natural disasters and catastrophical events have been happening recently and it is no surprise that more people are becoming injured and disabled. Society itself has brought down the rights and equality of these unlucky people. The taunting and unequality should stop because just because their minds or body cannot function like ours doesn't mean that they should be treated differently.

3. Veteran's Rights Proposal by Randy War is a harsh thing that risks your innocent life for the sake of the government and country.Although many come out fine, others suffer the consequences of battle and war. Veterans do deserve to have special benefits because they already served our country and have suffered for it.

4. Immigrants' Rights Proposal by Tiffany Zayas As an immigrant myself I strongly believe that these people who flee their homeland should be accepted in the United States or any other country they go to. As she said, these people do not go to the United States to steal jobs or increase crime, these people run away in hopes of a better life. No one has the right to stop these people to do so.

5. Gay Rights Proposal by Shae-Lynn I'm a strong believer in equality concerning sexuality and sexual preferences. The LGBT community deserved the same respect as any other community in the U.S and in the world. Enough is enough and these people have struggled throughout history and it is their time to shine and finally be treated the same.

6. Criminal Rights Proposal by Carol I do agree with her in one part, criminals sometimes behave well to be free and go back into their criminal lives, but this is not the story for many. Crimes like murder or rape should be terribly punished and yes, they should do their whole jail sentence, but some people are innocent. The justice system is corrupted already and a few changes will do us no harm.

7. Women's Rights Proposal by Paola Women throughout centuries have been discriminated in the United States and even today things like the Glass Ceiling and other sexist problems still exist. It is about time that women are not seen as inferior but equal to men in so many ways. Being a female myself know how differently we are treated either for good or bad purposes. It is about time we are seen for our potential and not our sex.

8. Puerto Rican's Rights Proposal by Roxanne Being latin overall can cause people to act racist against us but even in Puerto Rico we are discriminated by color and our way of living. Any kind of racism is unacceptable in my book and it should just cease to exist. Puerto Ricans as well as other latins should be accepted in society and treated equally. Just because our dialect and our skin colors are different doesn't mean we are a different specias and are out of this world.

9. African American's Rights Proposal by Fransisco/Willie As I mentioned before I cannot tolerate racism and even though there is an Amendment concerning this people still highly discriminate these people by their race and skin color. African Americans have suffered for thousands of years and even though people claim to act equal towards them this is still not e seen. Take for example the election of President Obama, many people were against this just because he was black.

10. Muslim Americans' Rights Proposal by Armando Another topic concerning racism and judgement. Muslims, ever since 9/11, have been discriminated. Thanks to this many Muslims have been taunted and mistreated and are sometimes arrested to be interrogated even though they did nothing wrong. I see this as completely uncalled for and quite ridiculous on the part of the government and police. These people should only be searched if they qualify as a criminal or terrorist not just because of their race and such.

A Proposal for Equality in the LGBT Community

As everyone knows the Gay/Homosexual/LGBT community has not been fully accepted in society and are currently waiting for a drastic change to be done. Society has been nothing but ignorant but times are changing and society is slowly opening their close minds. The gay community is nothing but a bunch of normal, emotion filled human beings. Everyone deserves the right to live their life a happy way and as the 9th amendment states, people have more rights than the one's written down on paper.

It is my duty, as a human being, to accept everyone and anyone who is alive and breathing. It is everyone's right to respect and accept their fellow friends and family. The first amendment states freedom of religion, speech and publications. I believe it should also incorporate and/or include the decision of gender. We are born with our rightful sexes but we learn our genders. Genders should be a choice that everyone can make. You're either a girl or a boy, if you feel like a girl then you are one, if you feel like a boy then you are one too. What is so difficult to understand? People are not all born the same and people have their likes and dislikes. Gender should be something you can be comfortable with and be happy with for the rest of your life. By oppressing such feelings people hurt and discriminate the LGBT community.

The government and political world are supposedly all about equal rights and respect for everyone, but where is the LGBT's respect? Where are their equal rights? Even if the government tries to hide the resentment of the gay community it can't be helped but be seen throughout media and political actions such as Prop 8. People are not born homophobic and yes I do believe people are not born gay, but as they grow up they learn and pick up habits that could determine their way of living. So why teach children to hate and discriminate others just because of their sexuality or sexual preference? Why should we stop someone from being the person they want to be just because it breaks social norms? Such actions are looked down upon many but look greatly for others. Ignorance and bad morals are the fault here, but it's not too late to change. People are slowly realizing that this community has been struggling for years for equality and the right to love who they want to love and the right to be who they really are. No one should have the right to stop them because then they would be breaking or go against a person's own will and rights. No one should be discriminated by anything and this world can change, slowly but surely, people will become more open minded about this picky topic.

As for the subject of marriage, why is it so wrong for the same sex to marry? Marriage is sacred yes, it is also a union between two participants who love each other and want to be seen as a couple legally and in publics eye. Just because two women want to marry or two men doesn't mean their relationship would be any different from a normal, straight couple's one. As long as there is love and a strong bond then there is nothing wrong with wanting and granting someone a marriage. The divorce rate is extremely high amongst straight people and still, the government cannot see that marriage is no longer what it used to be years ago. Saying that by letting a gay couple marry would dirty or mess with the sacredness of marriage is completely off track. A gay marriage could either have the same result or even a better one than a straight one. So technically that argument is completely invalid and fully opinionated. So, is gay marriage really wrong? Is letting two human beings form a bond and family inhumane? Letting these people marry and giving these people the same right as anyone else will not harm society in any way. It is time for the LGBT community to be fully accepted in society and be finally granted what they've always wanted, a happy life.

It's Time for Change.

Years and years have passed and some rights have been acquired by the Gay community, slowly but surely. In the 1980's gay political activists succeeded to include the homosexual community in the anti-discrimination ordinances. These ordinances prevented discrimination in housing, restaurants and other public places. Many religious groups were against this and fought until the end to take the homosexual community out of the picture.

The LGBT community is still struggling to be accepted and are constantly trying to make same sex marriage legal, which is the topic they are most passionate about. By the passing of Prop 8 the community has suffered greatly. Proposition 8 happened in California that states that only marriage between a man and a woman is recognized and accepted. Marriages accepted before Prop 8 are legal but now same sex marriage is illegal. Although this was a great tragedy other states have approved gay marriage. These states are Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire according to the 2011 statistics.

The reason people are so against homosexual marriages is because the same sex cannot procreate and cannot bring out anymore generations. Many people believe that procreation is the main thing about marriage and it is the reason people put up a special bond. The gay community is trying to make the government and other people understand that marriage happens because of love and nothing else. Yes, creating life is important in a way but so is love and true bonds. Little by little the LGBT community is trying to make their voices heard for acceptance and equality. The fiery passion they hold in their hearts will eventually be strong enough to convince many that being gay is not a fault and that it is not a choice but the way they were born.

Gay Pride! A Fight Against Inequality.

The LGBT movement is one of the biggest, currently happening, social movement in the United States. Discrimination and oppression has driving these people to fight for their equal rights and the right to marriage. The gay rights movement started at around 1924 but real progress began in the 1960's. After being heavily discriminated activists wanted to create a bigger impact in a more organized way. The event called "Stonewall Riots" transformed the movement greatly and it increased the movement's participants. Stonewall consisted of a 3 day protest which resulted in the LGBT resisting a police raid.

In the 1980's the AIDS epidemic rose amongst the majority of the gay male population. This changed many of the movement's ways and also made it more difficult for them to protest against discrimination. Around these times the word "queer" was created to describe all sexual minorities. In the U.S military the "don't ask, don't tell" policy came about which let homosexuals join the army while still prohibiting it. This raised the movement to fight for their civil rights and such. Marriage was another topic that was controversial and still is. Gay Marriage has been legalized in only 2 states in the U.S while others still go against it. By rallies and protests across the country the LGBT community is slowly trying to convince the government of their rights as human beings.

Today we see the communities attempt to be accepted into society and to be recognized as normal human beings. People are still treating homosexuality as a "disease" and something unwanted and immoral in society. Parades and protests are a common sight in many of the states of the U.S and even around the world. Slowly but surely, the LGBT community will get their points across and hopefully, be successful in their journey to gain equal rights.

The Gay Community: Oppressed Even Today.

Oppression follows anything going against society's social norms and one thing that is still being oppressed is homosexuality. Througout time upon the appareance of homosexuals many crimes involve gruesome murder on account of their sexual orientation. Are these people's feelings really wrong? Why has society seen it like this? Oppression is pushing these people down and causing them to fall slowly but surely.

About 10% of the world is admitted to be gay but 42% claim that homosexuality is wrong. With this large amount it is no wonder that homosexuals feel pressured to not show their true and innermost feelings. Sexism, racism and religious persecution amongst others are still ran against but many legal terms have been put up to fight against these. Only one group is still being oppressed and it it progressing much slower than these other social problems and this group are the homosexuals of the United States. Events such as the AIDS epidemic has brought up attention the gay population. Also nicknamed the "gay plague" it was said that it was a punishment signifying "God's warth" proving that being gay was completely unnatural. This was a first start to the heavy discrimination against homosexuals, bisexuals and so on. Thanks to the horrible descrimination against the gay community many don't even have some of the basic human rights everyone is supposed to have.

A current problem within the gay community is the right to adopt children. Gay couples pleads are denied and rejected just because of their sexual orientation not because of how good their home is. There are no proven facts that show the difference between being raised by a homosexual couple or a straight one. Children will grow up how nature wants it regardless of their parents sex and relationship. By being excluded by society many gay people feel lost and fearful about how outsiders treat them. Just this year many homosexual kids have committed the act of suicide due to the taunting and pressure of anti-gay children and sometimes even parents. Many homosexual kids are disowned by their family or treated differently just because they admit being attracted to their same sex. Is this really the way people should be treated? Is a homosexual life less important than a heterosexual's? I believe not and many would agree. Oppression of this group has driven many to death and seclusion from society. These people keep being verbally and even physically abused and this will keep going if we do not put a stop to it.

Homosexuality and it's Appearance and Recognition in the World.

When someone mentions the word "Gay" people automatically turn to homosexuality and partners of the same sex, but did it always mean this? In the past, if someone said a person was gay it actually meant that he or she was simply happy. Usually upon hearing the term gay and homosexuality we think of recent events and our generation but in reality same sex relationships have been going for years. This is something your history book doesn't tell you!

Same sex relationships among the Ancient Greeks and Romans have been hidden and put under the rug. Not many cultures rejected the idea of male love instincts. They would integrate it and accept it dearly and only a few cultures denied the idea. Eventually through time more countries started creating records of these "male bondings" and it became a normal but still controversial topic.

In 1971, the GLAA or The Gay and Lesbian Activist Alliance was founded. It is the oldest continuously active gay organization in the United States. The alliance dedicated themselves to secure the rights and privileges of the gay community through peaceful involvement in the political world. Throughout the years of 1971 and 2010 the GLAA have accomplished and struggled for the acceptance of the LGBT community. Associations like these fuel their audience to come out and express themselves and win their rights. According to studies made in 2005-2006 about 8.8 million gay, lesbian and bisexual persons in the United States. Also statistics say that 1 out of 20 people could be or are LGB.

Homosexuals are slowly growing into society and with growing activists it will be no surprise if more than half of the world comes out as LGBT. Acceptance is getting stronger but so is oppression and it is in our hands to fully accept the fact that these people just want to be treated equally no matter what. The group in general is getting stronger and will keep increasing throughout the years that come.

A small description of my classmate's essays.

Armando's blog.

It is quite obvious that Armando was on the Indian's side. He explains how the Indians or Native Americans were treated badly and were treated completely unfairly. He also states that the white settlers took everything from them and degraded them entirely. You can see how he deliberately defends the Native Americans and their natural human rights. His essay overall was a pro-Indian post with a good point. White settlers made these people give up their on land like Sitting Bull's Black Hill dilema.

Edrick's blog.

Edrick's essay was sort of like Armando's but not to an extreme extent. He stated that yes, the Indians were treated harshly but they were still given provisions and such to live on. Eithery way the government still did not supply them with a "healthy" living life. They were given rubbish materials and crudy food. This was surely not a great way to live. He also talks about the horrible conditions reservations were then and now. Alcoholism is still a mayor problem with the Native Americans and it is something that will not go away for a long, long time.

Irelis' blog.

Her essay protrayed a feeling of pity for the Native Americans. Assimilation was a serious topic for White settlers and the Native Americans. Assimilation was the concept of Native Americans converting to a white life. They had to become more "white-like" in order to be slightly accepted in society. These Natives had to suffer from being taken away, cutting their hair and changing their pride filled names into more Christian like names. It is completely heart-wrenching that these people had to give up everything they were known for in order to be accepted. Even after that, they weren't completely accepted due to the sense of superiority the white settlers had. Indians were degraded and shamed in order to live a more "modern" life.

Nestor's blog.

Yet another blog that defend the Native Americans in such a nice matter. He did add a bit more facts and wasn't a die hard Native defender but he did state that the white settlers were not being fair as well as their government. He stated how the goverment usually cheated the Native Americans and made them believe that they were being generous and understanding while in reality they were just looking for ways to benefit themselves. Nestor also states a really interesting thing, the government hasn't changed since then. People still treat Native Americans as outcasts and don't offer them help. Little by little the Natives will perish for just being on their own land.

Randy's blog.

Randy's blog states how Indians were scarred for life during these conquering time periods. White settlers abused their power and destroyed the memories and lives of these Native Americans. They forced them to change their lifestyles and give up their Indian ways. It's quite horrid to even think about completely changing your normal persona into a new one just because you were forced to. These Indians were treated completely unfairly and thanks to this their memories of sadness and grief will forever live on until the death of the very last Native American.
