It is my duty, as a human being, to accept everyone and anyone who is alive and breathing. It is everyone's right to respect and accept their fellow friends and family. The first amendment states freedom of religion, speech and publications. I believe it should also incorporate and/or include the decision of gender. We are born with our rightful sexes but we learn our genders. Genders should be a choice that everyone can make. You're either a girl or a boy, if you feel like a girl then you are one, if you feel like a boy then you are one too. What is so difficult to understand? People are not all born the same and people have their likes and dislikes. Gender should be something you can be comfortable with and be happy with for the rest of your life. By oppressing such feelings people hurt and discriminate the LGBT community.
The government and political world are supposedly all about equal rights and respect for everyone, but where is the LGBT's respect? Where are their equal rights? Even if the government tries to hide the resentment of the gay community it can't be helped but be seen throughout media and political actions such as Prop 8. People are not born homophobic and yes I do believe people are not born gay, but as they grow up they learn and pick up habits that could determine their way of living. So why teach children to hate and discriminate others just because of their sexuality or sexual preference? Why should we stop someone from being the person they want to be just because it breaks social norms? Such actions are looked down upon many but look greatly for others. Ignorance and bad morals are the fault here, but it's not too late to change. People are slowly realizing that this community has been struggling for years for equality and the right to love who they want to love and the right to be who they really are. No one should have the right to stop them because then they would be breaking or go against a person's own will and rights. No one should be discriminated by anything and this world can change, slowly but surely, people will become more open minded about this picky topic.
As for the subject of marriage, why is it so wrong for the same sex to marry? Marriage is sacred yes, it is also a union between two participants who love each other and want to be seen as a couple legally and in publics eye. Just because two women want to marry or two men doesn't mean their relationship would be any different from a normal, straight couple's one. As long as there is love and a strong bond then there is nothing wrong with wanting and granting someone a marriage. The divorce rate is extremely high amongst straight people and still, the government cannot see that marriage is no longer what it used to be years ago. Saying that by letting a gay couple marry would dirty or mess with the sacredness of marriage is completely off track. A gay marriage could either have the same result or even a better one than a straight one. So technically that argument is completely invalid and fully opinionated. So, is gay marriage really wrong? Is letting two human beings form a bond and family inhumane? Letting these people marry and giving these people the same right as anyone else will not harm society in any way. It is time for the LGBT community to be fully accepted in society and be finally granted what they've always wanted, a happy life.
